GoZen update: 2023 – Week 52

Just a quick update with some bullet points for this one:

Blog

The blog where I was planning on posting these progress updates on will have to wait a bit as I just didn’t find the time for it. This is something I’ll very quickly put together and will “beautify” over time.

Settings menu

Found some issues which make it not function properly so I extended the deadline on that together with the media pool, as long as I can finish these before work on the timeline is supposed to start. The issues are just related with the startup commands so I don’t think it will be that troublesome to fix.

Licensing

Changed the license to GLP for both GoZen and GoZen-ffmpeg, this way I can include the ffmpeg library in the final install with –enable-gpl which adds the h.264 and h.265 codecs.

Alpha testing

I started the application for the GoZen alpha, we already have over 10 people signed up. I’ll make a video about this later in January, here is the link to the form: https://forms.gle/aRWLXo1M883V8pDJ9

Media pool

The media pool has gotten some work done to it, but the GDExtension will also need some extra work as this will include the “file” classes.

GoZen-ffmpeg

As mentioned before, this has changed to the GPL license meaning that people can not freely use it in their projects anymore. However with the knowledge I have gained over demuxing videos, I thought it could be helpful to make a GDExtension which uses the OpenH264 project so people can display mp4 videos in their projects.

This will be a very quick (but working) implementation that I’ll make, but this will have to wait till later in January. Won’t spend too much time on this but if it can help people, raise some extra traffic to my channel and possibly get some donations through the downloads on itch, then this project would be successful! But again, not a project with high priority and it will depend on my progress of the GoZen timeline.

Happy new year

This is the last update post of 2023, let’s hope next year we can have a post saying “V:1.0.0 released” and “GoZen became the best video editor on Linux”. Would be nice. ^^ Happy new year and thanks for following this journey with me. ๐Ÿ˜€
